Short Video Script Templates: 30 to 60-Second Examples
A short video works best when it completes one promise. Start with the viewer's question, show something useful and finish with one next step. The templates below are starting points to adapt and time, not guarantees of duration or engagement.
Template 1: explain one thing
Use this format for a small lesson or a common customer question. Replace the topic and keep the example specific. If the explanation needs background, put that context into a separate video rather than adding a rushed introduction.
Does your script sound more formal than you do? Try this. Read the opening aloud, then explain the same idea without looking at it. Write down that second version. You'll often find shorter sentences and simpler words. Keep the meaning, remove the phrases you wouldn't say, and record again. Start with just the first paragraph.
Template 2: demonstrate a change
Leave room for the demonstration. Spoken words cannot consume the whole time budget if the viewer needs to compare two images. Show the actual result and describe any limitations instead of promising the same result for everyone.
Here's the same script with two layouts. First, the text fills the screen. My eyes have to travel across each line. Now I make the column narrower and check the text from my recording position. The aim is comfort, not the smallest possible column. Try both layouts in a short take and compare your gaze.
Template 3: make a useful announcement
Replace the final sentence with real event information. Check names, dates and any purchase terms. This template is fictional and should not be published as a real event unchanged.
We're running a short workshop on recording your first video lesson. Bring one idea you want to explain and a phone or tablet. We'll turn the idea into a short script, make a test recording and review what needs to change. Add your own date, location and booking details here before publishing.
Fit the platform after the message works
For a 30-second plan, use the word-count guide's one-minute estimate divided by two, then subtract demonstration time. Platform length limits change; check the destination when publishing rather than treating this guide as a current specification for Reels, Shorts or TikTok.
- Time the adapted script aloud, including demonstrations and pauses.
- Choose the required orientation and preview where platform controls may cover text.
- Record with the script close to the lens, using a comfortable reading pace.
- Correct captions and check the final export before posting.
