How to Read a Teleprompter Naturally on iPhone and iPad

Natural teleprompter reading starts with a speakable script and a comfortable reading position. Bring the text close to the camera, shorten the lines and let your pauses lead the delivery. Test a short recording instead of trying to find one perfect setting.

Put the words near the actual lens

Find the camera you are using before placing the script. On iPad, the camera position depends on the model and orientation. A centered block of text is not necessarily close to the lens. Keep the passage you are reading near it without hiding controls you need.

Narrow the reading column if your eyes travel from side to side. Increase the text size only until it is comfortable at your recording distance. Very large text can leave too few words visible and create frequent jumps.

Rewrite for a listener

Say one sentence without looking at the script, then write the version you actually said. Replace formal openings and long clauses. Keep a paragraph for each idea so that finding your place is easy after a breath.

Example to adapt
Written: This tutorial will facilitate the implementation of a more efficient recording process. Spoken: Let's make your next recording easier. We'll start with the script, then check where to look.

Choose how the text follows you

With fixed-speed scrolling, rehearse first and adjust the speed when you feel rushed. With voice tracking, select the language of the script, allow microphone access and finish any speech-model preparation before recording. Speak the script to check that it follows you.

A pause in speech can stop the text without stopping the video. If you improvise and lose your place, return to a clear phrase in the script or reposition it. Do not assume the recording has paused just because the words stopped moving.

Use a short take as your feedback

Do not try to eliminate every breath or small pause. Address one person, finish each thought and let your face respond to the meaning. A prompter keeps your place; it does not need to dictate your expression.

  • Record the same short paragraph with a wide column, then with a narrower one.
  • Watch your eyes with the sound off. Notice sideways movement or a gaze below the lens.
  • Listen without watching. Mark sentences that sound rushed or written.
  • Change one thing, record again and keep the setting that feels easier.
